that show a strong link between periodontal (gum) disease and
cardiovascular disease (heart attacks and strokes).
Several thousand patients have been assessed who have never had a
heart attack or a stroke and it has been found that the patients with gum
disease also had signs of atherosclerosis, a process that causes narrowing
of the arteries due to a build-up of material on the inside of their walls.
Research has also shown that this link between gum disease and
atherosclerosis is especially the case in the carotid arteries (in the heart) and the
arteries of the brain.
* Start calling their offices one by one and ask for appointments.
Make sure this initial consultation is offered free
of cost. If you are asked for any fee at this stage, then hang up immediately.
* Once you have set up a few appointments, start visiting
their offices as per schedule. You're your
eyes and ears open at all times, making mental notes of how
hygienic the offices look, how well mannered the office staff are, and
so on. * Once you are sitting face to face with the dentist, discuss with him (or her) about your dental history and problems, and decide whether you
like the way he explains preventive measures and treatments.
